Everyone should read the hogfather
Most modern fantasy just rearranges the furniture in Tolkien’s attic.

We have compiled a list of Sir Terry Pratchett’s best quotes to remember him by. A fantasy author and creator of the Discworld, Terry was known for his uncanny sense of humor and quirky fashion sense.
Actor, Sir Tony Robinson remembers Pratchett as a “bit of a...
- The dogged determination and patience of one person to do what is Right and Necessary may not always win the day or even be noticed, but it will tip the balance just a little in the direction of good.

Humans need fantasy to be human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.
AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.
Terry took Death’s arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night.
The End.
RIP Terry Pratchett, One of the greatest fantasy authors.
For those who haven’t read any of his books, I strongly recommend giving his Discworld series a go.
His style is absolutely amazing, and his writing is pretty much fearless. The books can be hilarious while dealing with very serious and problematic topics like racism, sexism, and Death.
Terry Pratchett takes fantasy clichés and turns them into something original, he’ll commit to them to the point where they become new again.
His plots are fantastic and aren’t limited to one genre. They reach from fantasy-crime, to spoofs of Phantom of the Opera, to the story of a conman who is forced to save a bank (while minding the bank’s chairman, a little dog called Mr.Fusspot). If you’ve read any of the blurbs on his books you’ll know they sound absolutely bonkers.
Discworld is crazy and serious, endearing and deeply disturbing, and for me, has some of the most interesting characters, and especially well-rounded female characters, I have found in fantasy so far.
Needless to say I deeply admire Terry Pratchett’s work. A really extraordinary author who made my world a better place.
Discworld synopses sound both ridiculous and totally awesome out of context
- - an ex-conman reforms a post office with the help of a golem?
- - Les Miserables in reverse starring a time-traveling policeman??
- - a seven-foot skeleton and his granddaughter save Christmas???
- - a wizard rescues Australia while his colleagues accidentally invent sex????
- - like any newcomer reading this post is either 'did he use a random plot generator' or 'oh my god I have to read that right now'
