People thinking that a collective trauma is the time to do “self-improvement” just bc they may be less busy are misguided. You didn’t consent to this constraining situation. You’re unlikely to be in a place of relative safety and stability. This isn’t to say that no growth can happen here, but force rarely serves it.

Work on the self starts and ends with kindness. Kindness to the self is the first step, the ultimate achievement, and every step of the way. Growth is simply wiser and deeper kindness to self.

If you’re trying to force yourself to be “better” right now, in a time of immense pain and uncertainty, is it rooted in kindness? Idk! I don’t know you. But I know our culture, and its demands are not kind. Kindness usually looks like a radical departure from cultural coercion, as far as it’s in our power.

Do I consent?

Is it kind?
