Like, they aren’t spectacular on first glance, but grackles are iridescent, irrepressible, melodramatic, and sound like Satan’s ringtone, and killdeer are these dapper, tweedy little cottagecore critters who don’t look like much but are brave as fuck and fling themselves into the path of anything they think might be a threat to their chicks, pretend to be gravely injured, and lure it away. One did this to my parents’ JEEP.
