5 Reasons to go to therapy

the-diary-of-a-failure

It took me so long to get my own ass to therapy. Today I present you my reasons why and therefore speed up your own decision process:

  • Get it all out -You can talk about everything that bothers and hurts you without actually dumping all the negative energy on your friends. Don’t get me wrong, you should totally talk to your friends about these things but not all the time. Therapists are paid for sitting and listenting to you and offering advice, your friends aren’t. Therapist also know how to cope with bad news, your friends don’t necessarily do.
  • Professional supervision -Your problems might be really bad. Like “suicidal” bad. In that case you absolutely must get a psychiatrist, who’ll help you.
  • Someone rational -A therapist will give you a rational point of view to your problems, because they don’t have their emotions involved. Especially if you suffer with anxiety, you’d probably use some rationalising.
  • Solutions exist -They probably won’t turn you into an all time positive and happy, healthy person but damn feeling okay sounds nice doesn’t it?
  • It’s okay -Even if you think your problems aren’t “big enough” or “serious enough” you should try therapy out, if you’re not feeling good. Believe it or not but being happy or calm or just simply okay is the basic setting of a healthy brain. After something bad passes you should go back to being happy. If you don’t or you feel like bad things never pass… give therapy a try.

Take care

One of the lies Depression tells us is that going to therapy won’t make a difference, or we’ll be bothering the therapist, or the therapist will judge us.

This is when I need to remind myself, my Depression, and anyone who is listening that THERAPISTS EXIST BECAUSE THEY HAVE LITERALLY DEDICATED THEIR LIVES TO HELPING PEOPLE LIKE ME GET BETTER.

Say it again, say it louder: A THERAPIST IS NOT GOING TO JUDGE YOU OR MOCK YOU OR LAUGH AT YOU OR TREAT YOU LIKE YOU ARE CRAZY. A THERAPIST IS GOING TO USE ALL THE YEARS OF STUDY AND PRACTICE THEY HAVE TO HELP YOU.

You aren’t a burden. You aren’t unreasonable. You aren’t the only person, or the first person, to feel the things you are feeling. You deserve to be happy and you deserve to live your best life. A therapist has dedicated their life to helping you do that.

Okay, that was a lot of ALL CAPS stuff, but it’s important.
