“[…]but it gave him more sorrow than joy, and he was now weary of his adventure. He was aching in his bones for the homeward journey.”
The longer I look at this the harder I laugh.
Omg. OMG. Still one of my favorite things the internet has provided me.
As promised, here is my guide for Magical Plants.
I know it took long, I’ve got my studies to blame for that.
There’s also a variant rule on the first page for those of you who want to use this alongside my Creating Magic Items guide.
Picture from Google.
Enjoy! :)

I Have A Morbid Curiosity And No Sense Of Self Preservation So I’m Going To Google It Anyway: An Adventure In Gambling Your Eyes Away
Hear me out.
As much as I love the idea of sitting on the lakeside talking about Cullen’s childhood, or reading poetry to Cassandra in the woods, or whatever. Honestly, this isn’t even limited to li plot lines. Just the idea of the Inquisitor leaving Skyhold to go spend an hour talking to literally anybody, with no other reason to be there (or that PERSON to be there, like Cullen,) is just absurd. They sure as shit aren’t just going to Val Royeaux to “have some fun” with Cole.
In Origins, Dagna tells the Warden that it takes 2 weeks at best to get from Orzammar to Lake Calenhad. Now, while Orzammar is in the mountains and thus at least a day of that travel time is just getting through those mountains, Skyhold is ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GODDAMN MOUNTAINS.
Looking at a map of Ferelden from Origins, the actual distance from Orzammar to the Circle is NOT that far. Thedas as a whole is an entire continent, obviously, since Ferelden, Orlais, Rivain, Seheron, Tevinter, etc are all their own countries. So let’s assume Ferelden is a decent size. I mean, it has a pretty wide range of climates just in it alone, from the cold mountains to the sunny, chilly Hinterlands to the tropical Emerald Graves to the constantly rainy Stormcoast. It’s big.
I’m not the best at eyeballing distances/sizes, but I did a shitty mockup. (I’m procrastinating something fierce right now.)

The distance between Orzammar and the Circle is about an inch, from where I had it blown up on my computer. I could fit nearly 9 of similar-sized increments here. That means that to cross from one side of Ferelden to the other would take roughly 80 days. ((Assuming Dagna’s estimation depends on a few days of traveling through just mountains, let’s say 70 days.)) 70 days. 3 months to walk across this country.
The first time I played, I thought it was unlikely that the Inquisitor would just be up to go deal with shit, but then a few weeks ago I read a theory about how it took the people of Haven over 2 weeks to reach Skyhold. Of course, I don’t remember where I read this, but it got me thinking.

With my super incorrectly sized attempts to incrementalize this shit, I think there’s about 21x the distance from Orz-Circle in all of the Inquisition World. Now, keep in mind the absolute impossibility that you could move through this shit at exactly the same pace. Through the different terrains, the climates, the lakes, the obstacles, it would add WEEKS onto your overall travel time. BUT, assuming you could, it would take you 42 weeks to travel from the far side of the Hissing Wastes to the far side of Ferelden. Even if you want to say Dagna was off because of the mountains, even if you say it would’ve been one week on flat lands, it’s still 21 weeks, given completely flat, consistent, safe terrain, moving just from east to west. In all likelihood, it would likely take close to if not more than a year. The mountains alone have the potential to add up to 3 weeks to the entire trek.
So then the question is, does Dagna know about horses in Origins? Since she’s a dwarf, it’s debatable. She’s a smith, to boot, so she probably wouldn’t be dealing directly with traders, BUT she is definitely getting information from SOMEWHERE to know how far it is to the Circle, to have a map, so it’s likely that yes, she knows about horses. If we assume she doesn’t, a horse will cut that travel time in half, easily. So, again back to a week, back to 21ish weeks across the entire continent.
So the idea that the Inquisitor is just taking day trips to Val Royeaux, having candlelit dinners with her husband on a lake, etc., is just fucking ridiculous. Romantic, yes, but ridiculous.
At least with Solas there’s a good probability that the waterfall shit is a part of the Fade. That at least is feasible.
