The best thing about Finding Dory was that almost every character, outside of Dory’s parents, has a disability. Dory has short-term memory loss. Nemo has his famous small fin. Destiny is extremely near sighted, nearly blind,. Bailey’s sonar doesn’t work all of the time. Hank lost an arm. You could even say that Marlin suffers from PTSD and anxiety. And none of these things stops or halts the character at all. And I think that is fucking fantastic.

do you guys ever get to that point where hobbies are literally stressful? like people are like “oh youre depressed and/or anxious? just do something you love!” but literally doing the things you actually do still like doing stresses you out because you don’t know if you’re doing them often enough or right enough or if you’re having enough fun doing them

“In addition to being autistic, I’m also queer and physically disabled, and it would be nice to see that diversity reflected back at me. Autism isn’t the entirety of a character’s identity, but just a facet of it. Yet, I’m still waiting to see autistic women on television who love glitter and are as quick with sarcasm and pop culture references as Lorelai Gilmore, as emotionally affectionate and empathetic as Riley Matthews, and as sharp and passionate as Hermione Granger. I’d also love to see more diversity in the portrayals — autistic women aren’t just white, straight, cisgender, and able-bodied. After all, women already have a harder time being diagnosed and so do people of color, and it would really benefit us to show the general public that autistic women are as diverse as non-autistic women.”

Day 2 of my radio station internship:

That press conference at the stock exchange market though…I´ve never heard so much financial technobabble in my entire life. XD  I was sitting there like “???” most of the time, while my coworker, a 50+ woman, asked questions like her life depended on it. Then she turns to me and whispers: “Don´t worry, I didn´t get half of what they were saying.” Grabs the mic, walks up to the freaking director of the stock exchange market, and goes:“I´m sorry, I didn´t understand anything of what you said, so could you please shortly reiterate what this was all about?”

After that I wrote a report about the press conference, cut a few pieces from the audio files to tie them into the report. I´ll have to rework it tomorrow, and then I´ll have to record it, which makes me nervous as heck. XD

“In patriarchal culture, all males learn a role that restricts and confines. When race and class enter the picture, along with patriarchy, then black males endure the worst impositions of gendered masculine patriarchal identity.” — bell hooks

The film lays bare the corrupting and contaminating terrain of masculinity — its toxicities, its brutalities, its unrelenting banality… The depth and texture of [Chiron’s] life was stolen by the insistence of homophobia and the mask of an almost suffocating masculinity.” — LaLi Mohamed

Carrie was an utter gift.

notquitesogrump

I normally don’t like to add to posts, but this is just one of my favorite things about her. I guess Carrie Fisher just carried glitter everywhere, because she did the same thing at Indiana Comic Con when she was there in 2015. She actually kinda got in trouble because she was taking so long with each person who came for autographs because she wanted to “baptize them” with her glitter. She wanted to make sure that everyone who saw her got some glitter.

tldr; she was truly a gift and i sobbed at work when i got a notification that she passed, and i’m crying now as i type this.

So what if we all picked a day and wore glitter for her?

Next May the 4th seems appropriate.  Dedicate Star Wars day to the original princess?

LET’S DO IT!!

I am so on board with glitter for Carrie day.

thebibliosphere

She talked about how her therapist (I think it was in her book Shockaholic but I can’t check right now) always knew when she was having an ‘off’ time in her head depending on how much glitter she’d show up wearing to appointments. It was her way of making the world sparkle and shine even when it felt dark. It made her feel better. Evidently she wanted to share that with others.

I purposely went out and bought glittery body dust in her honor. I’m going to welcome in 2017 lit up like a firework. Ain’t none of y'all going to ever be able to hug me ever again without getting covered in glitter. It’s on. We’re doing this. And on May 4th we’re going to make the world shine.

For Carrie.

Glitter for Carrie Day is May 4, 2017. Spread the word.

Day 1 of my radio station internship:

I survived! :D Today was 100% office work though; I spent the day writing small radio reports that I sent to the editors in chief, who corrected them, so that I learn the finesses of writing for the radio.

Just as my shift was over and I wanted to leave, one of my older coworkers asked me if I was interested in attending a press conference. I said yes, so we talked to the editor in chief, and I´m allowed to attend one tomorrow at the stock exchange market! I´m not very fond of finances and such, but I´m excited to see how this all works.

Okay, everybody, I have a story about random shit in college. When I was in college, there was a particular class I took where, no matter what time you walked into class, if you made it into the room before the professor, you wouldn’t be counted late. I mean, that’s a pretty cool policy, given how some professors are really obnoxious about attendance.

Well, one time, a fellow student of mine was running late to class. As she reached the edge of the building, she saw her professor making it to the front steps (super long rectangular building here). He looks up from walking and he sees her. He then points to his watch, gives her a well-meaning “Look who’s late” face, and walks on inside.

What he didn’t know, though, was that this particular student was like freakishly good at bouldering and related climbing skills, so she was just like “Fuck it” and SCALED THE BUILDING!

She tapped on the window of the 4th floor classroom (the floors had like 20ft ceilings, so, she was quite a ways up there), nearly making one student piss himself. They opened the window, she rolled through, onto the floor, and slid into her seat about five seconds before the professor opened the door to the classroom.

He did a double take, started to say “How the hell d–” when a security guard ran in, red-faced and panting, pointed at her and bellowed “STOP DOING THAT!”
