In some black communities there’s still a stigma that kinky or coarse hair is “bad”, which couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s no such thing as good or bad when describing someone’s natural hair texture or type. To those struggling to love and accept their natural hair because of societal pressures, remember this - straight, curly, kinky or wavy, it doesn’t make a difference. Embrace your hair the way it is, no matter what society tells you. All hair is good hair. It’s your Crown.

My lineup for Luxcon! :D

Tomorrow I´ll be a wee Hobbit lass, only I´ll wear a warmer shirt and Hobbit sandals; it´s too cold for my usual almost barefoot Hobbit feet. Also this is probably the last time I´ll be wearing his wig..back when I bouht it I knew nothing about proper storage. And it´s a curly one…it looks like a dead rat by now.

Sunday I´ll bring out the Prosecution, although I´ll have to redo her sleeves and her bow. They died in the wash, and one of her buttons broke. So yes, I´ll be fixing Franziska up. Oh, and I´ll be wearing my glasses!

a-weird-rusted-android asked:

Hello! There is this fantasy world I'm making where a lot of the magic used would be some kind of dark magic (like necromancy, blood rituals and so on). This doesn't necessarily have negative implications in-world but I was wondering, would it be best to leave my POC characters out of these practices? I know there are negative stereotypes involved with magic for certain groups, but would this be alright if I tried to avoid those stereotypes and also have white characters use magic?

Characters of Color involved in “Dark Magic”

We wouldn’t think it fair to leave PoC and other marginalized people out of the magic use besides the cases where magic conflicts due to ethnicity, stereotypes, or religion.

Some Magic Conflicts to Avoid:

If the magic use is evenly and diversely distributed, it’s probably fine, so have some characters of a given race use “dark” magic and other characters of the same race use other kinds of magic.  As long as you avoid magic for those groups that do object to it, and magic that has some kind of damaging stereotype associated with it, like Black characters doing Hollywood voodoo (We’ve discussed voodoo representation here a lot) or Indian-type characters doing some Temple of Doom monkey-brain eating s**t.

In short, go for even distribution, and have sensitivity for certain groups where this would apply.

Not Enough PoC in Relationships & “Too Many” Interracial Relationships Concerns

WWC! My writing question concerns interracial dating in a mostly white high school based on the one I attend (I’m white btw). I have created fifteen characters, four of which are white. I’ve realised that out of the 5 romantic relationships that occur during the story, 4 are interracial, 3 between a white person and a person of color. The relationships are between a black girl and black boy, Chinese boy and black jewish boy, white girl and Japanese girl, Latina girl and white girl and an Indian girl and a white boy.

I was wondering whether this could be problematic, as I have put a higher ratio of white people in relationships, which was accidental but I’m scared might put across a negative message.

Also, should I be worried about having most of my relationships interracial?

There are reasons why some of my POC characters aren’t dating- one is Muslim and doesn’t plan on dating until she’s older, one is aroace, but these are the only two with reasons why they’re not dating people and I’m worried that I might be putting across a negative message. Any thoughts? Thank you!

I never actually thought about this before but purely going by the numbers, in a purely equal and interconnected world, the majority of relationships would be interracial, since as no one broad group has an absolute majority in population.

The barriers are 1) geography and 2) prejudicial preference.

Just avoid fetishization.

You do seem to have a balanced amount of People of Color in relationships, but if you’re concerned, you could always add more.

That could (and should) mean relationships we see unfold, such as main characters, and also smaller roles (like parents, friends, other family members having relationships) that we may not see as much of, but might be established in minors ways, talked about or mentioned.

The best thing about Finding Dory was that almost every character, outside of Dory’s parents, has a disability. Dory has short-term memory loss. Nemo has his famous small fin. Destiny is extremely near sighted, nearly blind,. Bailey’s sonar doesn’t work all of the time. Hank lost an arm. You could even say that Marlin suffers from PTSD and anxiety. And none of these things stops or halts the character at all. And I think that is fucking fantastic.
