eonaeera asked:

I'm working on a story about a combat magician, and in it, I need to create 4 unique religions that don't get along. Do you have any advice to give that could help? Thanks!

Creating a unique fictional religion is difficult, there are many bits and bobs involved when creating a concrete, finished religion for your setting, but there’s a sort of template you can follow for many of these things.

Consider: What are the main objects of worship? (e.g. deity, sacred text, sacred lands)

What morals does this religion teach, if any?

What sort of organization does this religion have, and does it have political power within your setting?

Is the religion ‘active’ in the sense that it divinely influenced recent events within the setting?

Keep thinking. What would make this religion harbor enmity for the others? Perhaps the religion is only accessible to a single ethnicity, and so xenophobia may do the rest when it comes to ‘not getting along.’

Even if religions have some things in common, small differences in belief may cause all out war between the two faiths. The theologies do not have to be fully unique, they can be four different versions of the same theology but with different views on some primary beliefs that are inherent to that theology, such as ‘who deserves to be in the sacred land’ and generally things that may be divisive in nature, no matter how small the difference is between two beliefs.

Hope that helps!

Day 4 of my radio station internship (and Day 1 of Week 2) :

Today was an office only day, which was fine because I didn´t sleep much and would probably have snoozed away at a press conference…which would have been quite embarrassing. My teacher came to visit me, as required by internship policy - she talked to me alone, and she talked to my internship manager alone. I wonder what he told her.

So all I did today was writing news reports, getting feedback on them, and correcting them. It s always a good practice, since I found out that writing for readers and wrinting for listeners are two very very different things. (Though at one point one of the editors in chief told me my text was “absolutely like a good news report is supposed to be. Well done!” I have to admit that my ego flew to Jupiter and back for a second, hehehe.)

Nature Inspired Temporary Tattoos

Artist Allison Wilcoxen from Nature Tats specializes in making temporary nature inspired tattoos. Figments of nature, of it’s adventurous and rugged landscape, of it’s many unique creatures, and flora and fauna are made into temporary tattoos by Nature Tats, so that you may change your tattoos as often as the seasons.

These tattoos came from an initial concept of drawing and capturing all the little moments found in our habitats and ecosystems, where the artist behind this shop found that once nature was allowed to thrive and grow unfettered, and left to its own devices and serve its purpose- true beauty could be realised. Intrigued by the tones, shapes, patterns, and structure of every element at hand, she represents them in her work as realistically as she is able to achieve. The technical processes see a digital transfer from paper to temporary ink, where the tattoos reflect the ephemeral quality of nature- all things must blossom and perish to make way for new creation in the cycle of life. Find them in their Etsy shop.

Continuing our epic journey towards Shakespeare’s 400th death anniversary on Saturday, here is a handy-dandy board game that allows you to relive all the exciting ups and downs of this master playwright’s eventful life!

For all my fellow board game geeks out there: I know this is a totally rudimentary roll-and-move luck-fest with no strategy. I’m sorry. I actually started out designing a slightly more interesting game, but it was clear that I couldn’t both draw a comic and design a functional board game within the space of two days, so this is what you get.

Also, so many of you were gratifying excited about my Shakespeare Play Flowchart from Tuesday that I WILL be making a poster of it available. I have to re-design it a bit to make it more poster friendly, so it might be a little while. If you want to stay updated on the poster, as well as all other Good Tickle Brain news, sign up for my weekly newsletter. In addition to news, you get a weekly digest of my comics plus exclusive behind-the-scenes peeks and book/DVD reviews.

Also, don’t forget I will be speaking at the Folger Library on April 29th

In some black communities there’s still a stigma that kinky or coarse hair is “bad”, which couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s no such thing as good or bad when describing someone’s natural hair texture or type. To those struggling to love and accept their natural hair because of societal pressures, remember this - straight, curly, kinky or wavy, it doesn’t make a difference. Embrace your hair the way it is, no matter what society tells you. All hair is good hair. It’s your Crown.
