Black Queen Wearing Head wrap

anonymous asked:

So this isn’t so much a question about “how do I write…” but more “how do you feel about…” so I apologise for that in advance!

I am writing a fantasy novel and one of the characters that my MC meets is a queen who I am writing as a black woman. In the first scene that she is in I describe her as wearing bright colours and wearing her hair in braids. But then in a later scene, I described her as being among her friends and family and wearing her hair in a head wrap that matches the dress that she is wearing.

I’ve done a lot of research on the history of the head wrap and I am well aware of the connections with slavery in America. My question is; how would you feel if you read this character was written in this way? It is not a huge problem if you think that it should be removed from the story, but I’m trying to ask as many black women as I can.

Thank you in advance!

Sounds perfectly fine to me. She has her hair in braids, and then she wrapped it up to match her dress. Just simple style choices, eh? I’d just keep it at that, as nothing has to be too deep about it.

Oh. My. God.

Let me elaborate though before you start thinking the poor man is stupid for not knowing how a bra works, lol.

So as you might know, I’m a Media Writing student, and one of our classes trains us in how to behave in front of the media, either as someone working for them, or as someone who works with them. So today we held mock press conferences, and the teacher, who works for TV outlets, brought a camera man with one of those bigass TV cameras and a ton of microphones, to bring up the pressure and simulate the real deal.

(Good thing I already attended like seven real press conferences during my internship at the radio station last year. Took the pressure off quite a bit.)

We had to present something we’re passionate about so we know how to reply to questions. We have another class in which we had to develop a fictional product or service in order to learn how to market it online. So I developed a brand of fully customisable bras for people who do not find fitting ones due to health reasons, or body shapes the industry does not cater to. For the press conference, I imagine my brand collaborationg with the Ministry of Health and the local cancer research centre to develop a range of custom bras for breast cancer patients, as more comfy alternatives than the ones you are offered after surgery.

Of course the teacher wanted to know how these customisable bras work - what parts are customisable, why, how are they being made…

So at the end of the day, it all makes sense.

Out of context tho? Oh boy. XDDDD

ATTENTION ALL GIRLS: Being a ride or die means staying by a man’s side whether he has $500 or $5. Not when he cheats 10 times and you stay.

“Ride or Die” also means that if he ever hits you, he dies, and you call your bff for a ride.
