When Gene Wilder was offered the role of Willy Wonka, he said he’d only accept if his entrance was rewritten so he could walk out the door with a cane, limp his way to the crowd, then fall into a forward somersault. When director Mel Stuart asked him why, Wilder replied, ‘Because from that time on, no one will know whether I’m lying or telling the truth.’ Source
